I was experimenting with techniques to discover what you can do with twine, porcelain slip and hand-rolled ceramic fish. I love to push the boundaries of materials, playing with what can be fired in a kiln to high temperatures. I found that surprisingly fine string of even cotton was often possible to knot into nets to create delicate containers and vessels. I also discovered that Polynesian islanders traditionally throw a hand-made wreath of grasses into the sea as part of the funeral celebrations. This idea resonated with me so I created my own wreath to memorialize the death of our oceans - a circlet of porcelain net and fish to hang on the wall.
