Darkness to Hope

An Open Call exhibition at the Atkinson Gallery, Millfield at Street, Somerset. A response to making during lockdown and the emergence from the pandemic. For me, the work that I started almost immediately we were shutdown in March 2020 was the fish traps made from rusty iron wire, inspired by the bamboo woven fish traps I'd seen in the Pitt Rivers Museum in Oxford. I saw these as traps but a friend suggested that they were cocoons, protecting the porcelain fish. This became my question about those awful times of isolation, frustration, illness and loss. Were we imprisoned or kept safe?

It was good to see so many people at the PV and such a wonderful array of selected artwork in the huge gallery space. A real joy.
